Earliest Inhabitants
The Gujjars and Jats were the earliest inhabitants. Later on, Pathans came and settled in various areas near natural water resources.

Professions
A large number of soldiers joined the British Army before independence and later to the Pakistan Armed Forces due to which it is also known as 'city of soldiers' or 'land of martyrs and warriors'. A large majority of the population is migratory labourers who work in nearby big cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot.
Food
People enjoy eating both traditional as well as continental food. Variety of food ranges from the traditional ‘Lahori Chargha’ to the continental Chinese, Italian cuisine etc. People are very fond of eating ‘saag’ and ‘makai ki rotti’. A number of fast food restaurants have been opened now in Narowal including ZFC, Anbala Sweets, Sara Cash Carry etc.
Language
Urdu is the language spoken and understood by all. However, the majority, especially those living in the city speak Punjabi. The educated elite living in Narowal also understands and can speak English.
Lifestyle
People are simple and most of the population resides in villages. Major casts are Jatts, Gujjars and Rajputs. Since the area is not rich in agriculture, most of the people are engaged in different jobs other than cultivating crops. Life of the people can be divided into people living in the city and rural areas. The people living in the rural are mainly the agriculturists, servicemen and labourers. People start their day early in the morning with male members of the house going to their work place and children going to schools. Female members of the house stay back and look after the house. However, there are also women who work. The working women usually work as doctors and teachers.
The city is leading towards continuous development and advancement. Initially, the city lacked a good market for clothing and other household items. People usually used to travel to Lahore, Sialkot and Gujranwala for shopping but the situation has changed. The famous clothing brands including NDure. Kids Club and many more are now open in Narowal.
People of this area have gone abroad to earn their living and most of them are settled in United Kingdom and Middle East. These people are a big source of foreign remittance and are contributing to the foreign exchange of the country.
Sports
The city also has a state-of-the-art Sports City Complex having international standard equipment and houses cricket, hockey and football grounds besides residential accommodations for players, officials and employees. Cricket on regional level is played in the stadium. Other sports played by the people include volleyball, hockey and kabaddi.
